XNOR

THE GAME

XNOR was done for the Fantoche Animation Film Festival 2009 in Baden (Switzerland).

The game separates two main aspects from games and movies: interaction/non-interaction. The player has to switch between these "layers" to reach the next level.

PROTOTYPE PLAYTHROUGH

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Here you can see how i developed the prototypes

INSPIRATION

First, I looked at the flyers from different years to find something interesting. All of the strange creatures on the pictures had something in common: The creepy eyes. So I decided to bring those eye-component into my game. In the final version, the eyes are representing some kind of virus that lives in the "Animation-Dimension". They always look at the player and if you listen carefully, you can hear them sing and talk.

NAME

XNOR is a logical operation that produces a value of true if and only if both operands are false or both operands are true.

0 XNOR 0 = 1
0 XNOR 1 = 0
1 XNOR 0 = 0
1 XNOR 1 = 1

This means for my game: The player has to do the right things in both dimension (Animation and Interaction) and he will proceed to the next level. I thought the name XNOR describes my game perfectly.

LOGO

The logo is also inspired by the shape of the details on the 2007 Fantoche flyer.

MUSIC AND SOUNDEFFECTS

I created all of the soundeffects and ambient music with an electric guitar and different effect pedals.

Here you can hear some examples mixed together

Early prototypes

PROTOTYPE I

Developing the game mechanics... Switching dimensions, hide/show objects, interactive objects like buttons or elevators.

PROTOTYPE II

This was an early prototype, but most of the gameplay mechanics were implemented. I've tried to bring in the graphical elements inspired from the Fantoche 2007 Flyer.
